Female fertility is well documented to decrease with age. Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) represents the main solution to be considered together with treatments aimed at preserving female fertility before advanced age. Particular attention concerns medical guidelines to manage risks associated with ART: risk of multiple gestations, risk of cancer in case of progesterone treatment, health risks of pregnancy in old age. If couples move to countries where they can obtain ART treatments then problems may arise in terms of recognition of the family status of the child in the origin country. Task 2.4 intends to map risks and constraints at the legal and ethical level, to collect practices, and to compare different legislations.

Brief description of the activities and of the intermediate results: This Task represents an exemplary case of transdisciplinary collaboration bringing together experts from both the social, legal and biomedical sciences. Specifically, researchers in demography and law, representing the social science perspective, have worked closely with specialists in endocrinology, and andrology, representing the biomedical perspective. This collaboration has allowed for a comprehensive exploration of the intersection between fertility, fecundity, and male and female sexuality.

Brief description of the activities and of the intermediate results: Over the past months, Prof. Sara Landini participated in the Capgemini global survey on aging and insurance, contributing to the analysis and dissemination of results, which culminated in the publication of a dedicated report. In parallel, she intensified collaboration with Spoke 8 of the Age-It partnership, focusing on the insurance sector's response to demographic aging, particularly regarding protection schemes and medically assisted reproduction (PMA). As part of our international outreach, she co-organized a seminar on aging and insurance systems in Japan, fostering exchange with Japanese experts and scholars. Finally, Prof. Landini prepared a detailed response to reviewers for the joint paper on assisted reproductive technologies (ART), with an in-depth integration of case study evidence from Careggi Hospital and a broader reflection on public policy interventions in this domain.
