The proposal “Housing and Health Vulnerability of the Elderly in Italy” (VAI) has two macro-objectives: to produce (OB1) and promote (OB2) new knowledge on housing and health vulnerability of the elderly, with a sensitive view to the territorial dimension and socioeconomic inequalities. VAI incorporates an innovative inter-disciplinary research perspective, which intends to go beyond the state of the art, integrating knowledge and methodologies that refer to different scientific backgrounds, developing a real intersection, and not a mere juxtaposition of approaches, in order to capture the multidimensionality of the phenomena investigated.
During the first phase of the VAI – Integrated Housing Vulnerability project, the activities planned in WP1, WP2 and WP4 were completed. In WP1, an interdisciplinary review of the dimensions of housing vulnerability (architecture, gerontology, economics, sociology) was carried out, consolidated into a single report and accompanied by an integrated bibliographic database, with the definition of the analytical framework that will guide the subsequent empirical analysis. In WP2 (AT2.2), the mapping of the national databases necessary for the analysis began, including additional sources beyond the initial plan (Household Expenditure Survey, household energy consumption), and key variables consistent with the project's analytical framework were identified. In WP4, the contract of obligation (D4.1) was signed, drafts of the privacy protocol (D4.2), the data management plan and the case study investigation protocol were prepared, and a Teams channel for operational management and the official website (vai.econ.univpm.it) were activated. Dissemination activities began with participation in the conference The Demography of Ageing (Roma Tre). No substantial critical issues have emerged; the initial deliverables have been completed or drafted according to the schedule, ensuring steady progress towards the empirical phases.
