COnDIVIDI aims to improve our understanding of (changes in) the life course of individuals in Italy, their interrelations across different domains (work and family) and within families (couple partners and family of origin), and their multifaceted consequences over the life course and later in life, at older ages. Linking macro-institutional changes (through a cohort comparison) with micro-level dynamics will provide relevant insights into the drivers of (various) social inequalities, their reproduction across generations and their impact on individuals' lives. The project will provide information on possible mechanisms underlying social and economic inequalities in key life conditions and identify conditions that provide families with the necessary resilience and agency to cope with adverse situations.
(November 2024 – March 2025) The COnDIVIDI project – Unequal life courses: intertwining trajectories between family and work (Spoke 1 AgeIt) project has launched the activities of WP1, WP2, and WP3, aimed at investigating how family and work trajectories, job instability, and intra-family compensation mechanisms influence wealth, health, and social mobility in later life. During the reporting period, the following activities were carried out: review of international literature, definition of the multi-country comparative research design (15 European countries, United Kingdom, USA), preparation and preliminary analysis of SHARELIFE (W3, W7), SHARE (W1-W9), ELSA, HRS, and EU-SILC 2004–2019 data. The analyses reconstructed family and work histories between the ages of 15 and 50, measured wealth accumulation, health (biomarkers), and inter/intragenerational social mobility, applying sequence analysis methods, multilevel growth curve models, and regressions. Abstracts have been submitted and accepted for international scientific conferences (RC28 Milan, Giornate Popolazione Cagliari, ECSR Cologne) and a DSPS UniMI seminar has been organized (February 2025). The deliverables are partially completed (WP1: 60-30-20%; WP2: 50-30%; WP3: 30-20%). There are minor delays due to recruitment timelines (postdoc hired in December 2024, pre-doc still in progress), with no expected impact on the completion of milestones by October 2025.
