Biosketch: C. Giuliani (CG) is Associate Professor of Biological Anthropology at the University of Bologna where he teaches courses on “Biology of Human Populations”, “Human Ecology “and “Human Evolution and Biodiversity”. She has both a complete scientific training in the study of human healthy ageing from a molecular point of view and leading research in biological anthropology and human evolution, developed thanks to her activity as a Research Affiliate at the University of Oxford. Her research interests are in the genetics of human longevity and lifespan, and in describing patterns of natural variation among human groups with methods from population genetics. CG has studied the genetics of centenarians and supercentenarians in Italy and in other populations. CG’s second area of research is the description of biological ageing through epigenetic estimators with an approach based on human ecology, which considers the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and cultural environment. CG developed innovative biomarkers for age estimation in the anthropological field. CG has participated and continue to participate in many international groups for the study of human ageing, joining several European projects.
She is actively involved in Spoke 1 of the Research Program Age-It (Ageing Well in an Ageing Society) funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Within Spoke 1 – WP4, she focuses on bio-demographics and social aspects of ageing.
Roles: Spoke 1 Wp4 Task 4.1. Leader
