Biosketch: Rosella Rettaroli is a Full Professor of Demography at the University of Bologna, where she teaches International Demography in the first-cycle degree programme (L) International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs and the second-cycle degree programme (LM) Local and Global Development. She also teaches Social Statistics in the second-cycle degree programme (LM) Sociology and Social Work.
Currently, she is a member of two research units at the University of Bologna: the MIUR–PRIN research programme SOcial and Health Frailty as Determinants of Inequality in Aging (SOFIA) (local coordinator: Prof. Rossella Miglio) and the NextGenerationEU project under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Weather and Climate Vulnerability in Italian Demographic History (principal coordinator: Prof. Francesco Scalone). She is also a member of the COST Action The Great Leap: Multidisciplinary Approaches to Health Inequalities, 1800–2022 (GREATLEAP) CA22116.
Her research interests include ageing and longevity in the Emilia-Romagna region; studies on geographical longevity patterns, frailty indicators, and multimorbidity; time-series analysis of demographic events (marriage, death, and birth); demographic events and climate vulnerability in historical and low-income populations; mortality by cause of death and health inequalities; and event history and survival analysis methods.
