Biosketch: Elena Pirani is Associate Professor of Demography at the University of Florence, where she teaches various Demography courses in both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. She also serves as the Director of the Master’s Program in Design of Sustainable Tourism Systems. Her primary research focuses on family behaviors and structures, social support and family networks, individual health, social and economic inequalities, and population aging.
She has extensive experience in participating in national and international research projects related to family demography and population well-being, and she is the author of numerous articles published in scientific journals. Additionally, she has contributed to several editions of "The Population Report," curated by the Italian Association for Population Studies, where she also served as secretary. She has significant expertise in disseminating research findings through popular journals.
Moreover, she is the University of Florence’s point of contact for the LoLA Laboratory on Ageing and Longevity and is a member of the Board for the PhD Programs in Life Course Research and Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics at the University.
