Biosketch: Maria Benedetta Donati received her Medical degree and Specialization in Hematology from the Catholic University in Rome and her Ph D from the University of Leuven(Belgium); she has also been granted two honorary degrees in medicine from the University of Debrecen(Hungary) and Bialystok(Poland).Head for 15 years of the Laboratory for Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research at Mario Negri Institute in Milano, she was then founder and Scientific Coordinator of the Consorzio Mario Negri Sud in the South of Italy for 14 more years. In 2005, in Campobasso, together with Giovanni de Gaetano and Licia Iacoviello she launched the Moli-sani population cohort prospective study which recruited 25,000 adults from the Molise region, to study the prevention of chronic degenerative diseases with an emphasis on nutrition and healthy lifestyles. At the European level, she has been involved in several projects on nutrition and health and on cardiovascular disease biomarkers, while also cooperating as scientific evaluator. In her current role at IRCCS Neuromed (Department of Epidemiology and Prevention) she studies the impact on health of Mediterranean diet and supervises the biobank storing over 700,000 samples from the Moli-sani and other population studies. Her H -index is 82, with over 35,000 citations.
