Biosketch: Paolo Villari, obtained his MD degree at the University Federico II of Naples in 1987, where he also gained his specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine in 1991. From 1991 to 2000, Paolo Villari was Assistant Professor in Hygiene first at the University G. D Annunzio of Chieti and then at the University Federico II of Naples. From 2000 to 2006 he was Associate Professor in Hygiene at the Medical School of Sapienza University of Rome. Currently Paolo Villari is Full Professor of Hygiene at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy of Sapienza University of Rome. He has been Director of the Department of Public Health and Infectious Diseases, Representative of Macroarea B on the Board of Directors and Member of the Academic Senate of Sapienza University of Rome. Since 2021 he is the President of the Ethics Committee for Transdisciplinary Research of Sapienza University of Rome. He is currently Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine at Sapienza University of Rome.
Paolo Villari completed his post-graduate training in the U.S. During the years 1991-1993 he was Visiting Scientist at the Department of Health Policy and Management of the Harvard School of Public Health (Boston MA), where he obtained his Master Degree in Public Health in 1992. During the years 1995-1996, he was Guest Investigators at the Laboratory of Microbiology of the Rockefeller University (New York NY).
Paolo Villari teaches in many Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery and for Health Professions, in School of Specializations and High Training Courses. He was President of Degree and Master Courses in Nursing and Director of the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine. Currently he is President of the International Medical School (Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery track F) of Sapienza University of Rome.
Member of the Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health (S.It.I.), Paolo Villari was Secretary General of the Society during the years 2009-2012 and 2019-2020 and he is former President of the Lazio Section of S.It.I. Former President of the Epidemiology Section of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) in the years 2004-2006, he was Delegate for Italy of the Federation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM) from 2007 to 2013 and Deputy Secretary General of FEAM from 2010 to 2013. He is founding Academic Fellow of the Roman Academy of Public Health.
Former member of the Scientific Committee at the Directorate General for Health Planning of the Ministry of Health and member of the Scientific Committee in support of the activities of the Directorate General of Age.na.s, Paolo Villari is currently Chairman of the National Verification Committee for the elimination plan of measles and rubella in Italy.
He has been and he is currently responsible for international and national research projects, funded by the University, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Research, EU. He is co-author of more than 200 papers published between 1988 and today on international and national journals in different fields of Hygiene and Public Health (H-index 40, total citations 5,348, documents 228; source Scopus 7/22/2024). Scientific interests of Paolo Villari include the epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases, systematic reviews and meta-analysis on the efficacy and safety of health interventions and the area of public health and health care management.
