Biosketch: Teresa Villani is Associate Professor in Technological and Environmental Design of Architecture at the Department of Planning, Design and Technology of of Architecture Sapienza University of Rome.
She is a member of the management board of the Interuniversity Center of Systems and Technologies for the Healthcare Facilities TESIS, University of Florence/Sapienza University of Rome, Polytechnic University of Turin; Coordinator of the SITdA Cluster ""Designing for the community"" (Italian Society of Architectural Technology).
She has been member of the Editorial Board of the Techne Journal of Technology for Architecture and Environment, as Assistant Editor and she is a member of the Scientific Technical Committee of the scientific journal of Fire safety engineering, EPC Editore.
Currently, she is Age-it Affiliated Fellow and carries out research activities within task 1.3 of WP1, Spoke 9, coordinated by Prof. Tiziana Ferrante, Sapienza University of Rome, which deals with developing ""Design support tools for spatial and technological adaptability of homes for home care"".
Her research contribution concerns defining the optimal characteristics of domestic space in the Home-care perspective, focusing on usability and inclusive safety requirements to ensure the highest level of accessibility in the absence of architectural and perceptual barriers according to the Universal Design principles.
Furthermore, considering the integration of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies in the home setting, her contribution involves the application of operational ergonomics tools to identify relevant aspects to guide the architectural project, starting from analyzing the relationships between user-devices and the built environment.
These aspects will help develop innovative and personalized solutions that take into account the needs of specific user profiles (the elderly and caregivers).
