Biosketch: Valeria Tarallo is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Genetics and Biophysics 'Adriano Buzzati-Traverso' (IGB-ABT), Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR). During her PhD (2008) and her first postdoctoral experience (2009) at IGB-ABT, she focused on the study of pathological angiogenesis associated with cancer growth. Later, she joined the group of Prof. Ambati (University of Kentucky, Lexington, US) to study the role of Alu Pol III-derived transcripts in the dry form of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Then, she was awarded a Career Integration Grant of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie program and was hired as a Researcher at the IGB-CNR, with the objective to determine the role of Alu RNAs accumulation in cancer. Thanks to her knowledge and expertise in retinal cell biology, she is the PI of the CNR unit of the project PRIN2020FR7TCL 'New pharmacological targets to cure disabling retinal disease' and the scientific coordinator of the project PRIN 2022 PNRR P2022C9HJY 'Modulating Cripto to mitigate inflammatory response in degenerative retinal disease'. The main research interests of her lab are the study of Alu RNAs in retinal disorders and in cancer progression, as well as the study of molecular factors of VEGF family members and related receptors involved in physiological and pathological angiogenesis.
