The social world has a profound influence on individual health and well-being. This working package focuses on the interplay between social and biological factors influencing different levels of biological aging in the population. By using an interdisciplinary approach, these projects will identify how social factors directly affect health inequalities in later life and will ultimately advance our knowledge on how to extend healthy lifespan.
The tasks include how to measure biological aging in the population and which factors affect differences in the population; monitoring differences in cognitive decline in the population and how this affect decisions in later life; modeling the cumulative effect of environmental hazards in health outcomes using statistical techniques; monitoring disability by age in the population using different indicators; producing theoretical and empirical analysis on the persistence of demographic behavior across generations and finally investigating the role of social representation of aging and its repercussion on health inequalities.
