This WP focuses on longevity, its limits (if any), and its consequences on population ageing, health, possible extensions of the working life and active ageing (in retirement). Longevity progressed fast before the financial crisis of 2008, slowly between that and the Covid pandemic, and declined after that. What the future holds is unknown, but something may be inferred from the regularities of the past. As always, national averages hide profound differences (by gender, SES, ...), which will be investigated. As so will the consequences of bereavement, which may be especially harmful for the old. As more and more people reach old and very old ages, several issues arise: among these, health, productivity (with possible delay of retirement ages), motivation and requalification of the workforce, preparation for active, healthy and satisfactory retirement years. All issues that merit not only scientific discussion, but also the practical solutions that this WP will offer.
